It's time for a little rest and recuperation. After a tumultuous schoolyear culminating in coordinated attacks upon both Hogwarts and London, magical citizens could certainly use a break. Summer is upon us, and while the immediate danger has passed, not every creature is taking the summer off.

Quidditch World Cup Watch - Ireland 2022A commercial ends and the sounds of a boisterous crowd filter in. Bagpipes play in the distance drowned out on occasion by loud splashes. The voices of the hosts sound rather muffled when they first speak.
Taylor: - Alright, alright...enough with the water, we get it, you've got sea gods or whatever...
Equulous: Carrie, we are live.
Taylor: Relax, Mr. Equulous, relax.
The sound of papers and being shuffled can be heard and then a small thud, as though the microphone has been moved. When the hosts speak again, their voices are much clearer.
Taylor: Hello and welcome to this week's Cup Watch, broadcasting live from Montrose as Scotland takes on Finland! As always, I am your host Carrie Taylor of Harpies fame and four time consecutive winner of the Broom Book's Most Attractive Player Prize! The mascots have just exited the field and...ah, yes, here comes our referee! How are things looking for the day, my dear assistant?
Equulous: Assistant? Assistant? This is my show!
Taylor: Mr. Equulous, you are being terribly unprofessional. We are live. Our listeners don't want to hear your delusions. Come on now, tell us about where things stand.
Equulous grumbles, but some continues after some more paper shuffling.
Equulous: Finland has not been having a great season and, up to this point in the year, have only earned a collective total of 350 points. Scotland, on the other hand, is quickly approaching one 1,000 for the season. Their performance so far, combined with the fact that they are today's home team, make them clear favorites for the match. However after Finland's captain was sacked last month and replaced with former Helsinki Hiisis player, Viljami Peura, Finnish fans are hoping that their team can make a major turn around in these late hours of the qualifiers. Peura is the only male on the team at current and - ah! Here he comes now.
Taylor: He's not...very attractive, is he? A little...goblinesque...
Equulous: I have exactly zero opinion on that, Ms. Taylor. Following Peura are his fellow chasers; Petra Nylund and Sara Seppänen. Their seeker, Aada Aalto, and keeper Johanna Jokela. Rounding out the Finnish team are beaters Tea Lahti and Marika Mustonen.
Taylor: The Scottish team are always a good looking set! Bringing up the front we have Seeker Wallace Waston, followed by Keeper Olivia Wood. Chasers; Foster Falconer, Mickey Gordon and Savannah Strudwick. Bringing up the tail is beater Nan MacMillian with her partner and team captain; Gordon McCormick!
Equulous: Referee Lorenzo releases the balls and the match is officially started! Peura and Falconer are neck and neck for the quaffle and oh! Where did that come from? Falconer takes a bludger right to the spine it looks like - YES - it was a hit from Lahti! Peura has his hands on the quaffle, he's making his way down the pitch...And retaliation from McCormick! Not a terrible hit, but Lahti's lost the ball. Strudwick sweeps in for the grab and she's off! What an exciting way to start a match, folks!
Taylor: We've had good matches this week, haven't we? When Tahiti took on New Zealand on Monday to decide once and for all who would get Oceania's one slot for the cup, the two teams were neck and neck right until New Zealand caught the snitch and sealed their spot. Hopefully we'll see similar seat grabbing excitement today!
Equulous: That's a score from Strudwick! The first point of the game goes to Scotland, as expected! The quaffle is back in play and it goes to Nylund! She passes to Seppänen, who passes to Peura, he tries to pass back to Nyland...and a shot from MacMillian knocks the quaffle askew...Nyland still manages to get there first, though! Falconer and Gordon try to box her in but she's too fast for them. She shoots...Wood goes for the block, but she wasn't quite quick enough! The score is now 10 / 10!
Taylor: Lorenzo tosses the quaffle back into play and Gordon gets his hands on it first...oh, only to get hit right in the face with a bludger from Mustonen! The Finnish team is not showing any mercy today. Oh, Merlin...look at all that blood. That'll be a broken nose, for sure. Can Gordon still see straight?
Equulous: Well, either way, he's playing on...that's a good lad! Oh, no! Maybe he can't see straight? He's collided right into Watson! No team ever wants to take out their own seeker! Luckily it looks like it wasn't too bad a collision. Lorenzo is calling for...no, Gordon is refusing to be sidelined for medical attention. He wants to play on! Somewhere in the mess though, Peura maanged to get his hands back on the quaffle, he's going...he shoots...Wood makes the save this time! Good job, girl! This is Wood's first season on the national team, she's done better than anyone expected her to, hopefully she can keep it up! This is potentially the last qualifer for both Scotland and Finland, so both teams need a strong showing today.
The game continues on like this for about five hours. Both teams are giving it their all and the match is rife with injuries. Neither team is showing any signs of weakness.
Equulous: What is...Gordon is climbing up...he is standing on his broomstick! He's...yes he is leaping! Jokela tries to block, but a beautifully executed Dionysus Dive from Gordon seems to have thrown her off her guard. They collide...the quaffle has gone through the hoop, tying the game at 340...but Gordon is falling! A bold mood, successful but at what cost? Jokela! What is Jokela doing?
Taylor: She's helping him, look!
Equulous: Jokela has dived, she's reaching out for Gordon! She has him by the wrist...he's holding on to her broom and she's flying him...she has delivered her opponent safely back to his broom! What sportsmanship!
Taylor: Bit of a stupid move, though, isn't it? You're not supposed to help your competition...
Equulous: Maybe, Taylor, but we're not all as self-centered as you. Anyway, look! It looks like it may have been a ploy all along! Watson has crossed the pitch? When did he get over there? Aalto is several meters behind, can she catch up? I think I see the snitch!
Taylor: You do! That's the snitch! Wallace is...he's there! Lahti tries to hit him in his good arm with a bludger, but Falconer dives in to take the hit for him! Falconer is off his broom, falling, but Watson doesn't have time to help his chaser! WALLACE HAS THE SNITCH! SCOTLAND WINS, 490 TO 340! What a fantastic game from both parties! Not enough to put Finland back in the running though, I'm afraid! Scotland may stand a chance, though! This match brings them to a running total of 1330 points, putting them in the top position for their group! With only two group eight matches left in the standard round of qualifiers, will they be able to keep their hold on the slot?
Equulous: Keep listening to Cup Watch 2022 every Saturday to find out!
