HISTORY Born as the middle child and the youngest son of Harry and Ginny Potter, Albus has been subjected to the spotlight. After all, he is the one who bears the most resemblance to his father in terms of appearance, being the only one to inherit his father’s eyes, the very same ones that belonged to his grandmother.
For as long as he could remember, Albus spent his whole life in the eyes of media in spite of his parents’ greatest efforts to keep him and his siblings away from prying journalists. It was not something unexpected though. When he had been younger, he had spent a lot more time with his father, feeling comfortable enough for his father to be his confidante. He remembered whenever he had nightmares about going to Hogwarts for the first time, his father would be there. Sometimes, Al would find himself sleeping in between his parents, enjoying the comforting presences of both of them.
He had wanted to try to be like his big brother too like for instance, when James had gotten a broom, Albus had thrown a tantrum for he wanted a broom too. Much to his chagrin, he had to wait till he was a little older before he could really do anything. His parents had relented at last, giving him a kid broom and Albus was pretty sure the only reason why they had done so was because they were certain that he would be less of calamity as compared to James, and how right they were! Al had proven to be significantly less of a danger to the house and its unanimated inhabitants.
The bonds between the Potter kids, while they had their fair share of arguments, are strong with them always looking out for each other. Albus knew if anyone ever wanted to get through to James or Lily, they would have to get through him first no matter how little he was. However, in spite of the fact that all of them were in the same house, Albus feels a little distant from them, mostly because he knew they had their own friends.
When he had been younger, he had wanted to audition for the Gryffindor Quidditch team but decided against it, knowing he might not fully commit himself to it. Instead, he had occupied himself with nature, often preferring to spend time by himself. After all, he just wanted to learn how to fly to be on the same level as his brother and father, not because he really wanted to play. He was a fan of watching Quidditch but not that much of a fan of playing Quidditch.
To think he had high hopes of having a normal life in Hogwarts. It seemed that no matter where he went, people either wanted to befriend just cause it was cool to be friends with the son of Harry Potter or just wanted to have him paint his father in a negative light or get family secrets out of him, something that he was far from willing to share.
Given the unfortunate series of events that have been happening to his family so far, it is needless to say that Albus is terrified but has been doing a good job of hiding it and pretending that things will be fine. After all, the Potters and Weasleys had survived the first war and should there be another one, he somehow had a feeling they would survive this.
However, being caught in the turmoil of everything? Albus was one to shy away from things like this but it seemed like he had no choice this time round and he was uncertain as what he could do about it.
PERSONALITY Albus has always been a quiet individual, even while growing up, and has become emotionally shut off due to his experiences with the people around him. Thus, that leads him to become someone is unable to express himself wel as well. When Albus was younger, he was more expressive in the form of actions but has lessened his displays of affection the older he grew. Now, he struggles to articulate how he feels and instead, he chooses to bottle everything up.
Albus has grown up watching his father be a father to him as well as a protector of the magical community, with him being the Head Auror — that gives a reason for Albus to look up to his father as his role model.
What is Albus’ greatest fear? It is when he is unable to meet the expectations of others. His desire to please them and avoid disappointing them is basically his counterbalance to that fear of his. Yet, despite this, he is noted to be difficult to control, mainly because when Albus is under pressure and is struggling to cope with things, he draws into himself even further and pulls away, often preferring to distract himself with something else by keeping himself occupied, thus avoiding the issue. He has his moments of denial too and when he finally comes to terms with a bad situation, the first thing he focuses on is himself, hinting at a self-centered side of Albus. He cares greatly for his family in his own ways, even though he might not be the most direct person. When scared, Albus tends to show more affection in subtle ways such as hiding behind his brother when feeling exposed or holding his sister’s hand, even though they were much older now.
As a result that often comes from being compared to his father, Albus struggles with a fluctuating self-esteem and the desire to prove that he is own person. However, he has yet to discover who he really is yet, and instead, he finds himself succumbing to the pressure of what people really think of him, reflecting a sensitive soul underneath his mature persona. He goes to the extent of drinking tea and coffee – even though he doesn’t like it – to make himself more mature, showing the high standards Albus expects of himself. In a way, Albus is a bit of a perfectionist. Albus also thinks of himself as a pragmatic person and in a way, this is true. He does not like to explore a lot of what could possibly be just theories but he is not entirely closed off to possibilities. He is conventional, preferring to try ways that actually had worked for him, even if they were rather unorthodox.
Like other kids, Albus is rather vulnerable to being bullied, although he doesn’t really fight back. He holds everything in, not wanting to get into trouble, and mostly ignores whoever pokes fun at him, knowing it would probably get worse for himself. The last thing he wants to do is ruin his father’s reputation after all. Albus also has his own dreams and wishes of wanting to travel the world, hopefully to a place where he can be a normal person and not related to somebody famous.
